Millenium/MilCirc/Via: General Questions

What is Millennium/MilCirc/Via Circulation?

  • Millennium/MilCirc/Via are all names for the software module used on the LION system to perform library system functions such as checking-out and checking-in library books. The software is installed on all library circulation computers throughout the district by ERS personnel. Please do not ask DoTS to install this software.

What's the difference between Millenium, MilCirc and Via?

  • There is no difference except the name. The software has gone through several renovations and was originally known as Innovative Millenium or MilCirc. The newest version of the software is called Via, however users who knew the software by other names or still have old icons on their desktops may refer to Via as Millenium or MilCirc. If you have the old icon on your desktop and wish to have it upgraded to the Via icon, email ERS Helpdesk with your computer name and IP address and request the icon be upgraded.

How do I get into Millennium/MilCirc/Via Circulation?

  • With the latest release of the software, you should have an icon on your Windows desktop labeled, Via or Innovative Millennium. Just double-click on it to launch the application. Enter the username and password for your school when prompted. If you don't know your username and password, contact the ERS Helpdesk.

Why does Java appear when I start Millenium/MilCirc/Via?

  • Millennium is a java-based application and the window is a necessary part of the program. Closing it will shut down your current Millenium/MilCirc/Via session and you will have to restart and log back in. Feel free to minimize it if necessary.

My password doesn't work. What should I do?

  • The password for accessing Millenium/MilCirc/Via is changed at the end of each school year and is "case-sensitive". An e-mail with the new password is sent at the beginning of the year to all librarians. Check your Outlook inbox for this information. If you did not receive it, you'll need to contact the ERS Helpdesk for assistance.

Why is my Millennium/MilCirc/Via session slow?

There can be a number of things that can make Millennium/MilCirc/Via seem slow:
  • Network connectivity issues - Because Millennium/MilCirc/Via is a network application, it can be very sensitive to problems that occur over network lines which can result in Via losing connection to the LION server. Check other computers in your building to see if they are experiencing slow network response. If so, contact DoTS at 720.423.8888.
  • PC issues - Problems such as not enough memory, the speed of the processor in your computer, or the fragmentation of your hard drive can contribute to a slower than normal response. Recommended solutions to these problems would be to upgrade the amount of memory (RAM) in your computer, defrag the hard drive, or replace the computer entirely.
  • Workload on the LION server - While this is rare, if there are intensive processes overloading the CPU on the LION server, a decrease in response time will occur not only in MilCirc, but in all LION-related applications. Generally, any processes of this nature usually only occur after-hours.
